4. Homegoing by
We loved the book cover, and the story excerpt is unique enough to spike our interest – “..two sisters with two very different destinies. One sold into slavery; one a slave trader’s wife. The consequences of their fate reverberate through the generations that follow.”
5. In Search of Lost Time by Marcel Proust
In Search of Lost Time volumes have been hailed as one of Marcel Proust’s best works – a poignant reflection on time, reality, jealousy, artistic creation, and the raw material of literature – past life. Needless to say, we look forward to this compilation of all the 7 volumes.
6. 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster
Dystopia meets history in Paul Aster‘s next. Four boys who are the same boy, lead four entirely different lives in mid twentieth-century America. Confusing, eh? Yes. And that’s exactly why we want to read it. That, and because we loved Aster’s Moon Palace.
7. The House That Spoke by Zuni Chopra
A spooky, yet endearing tale of a teenage girl who has a deep connection with magic, written by a teenage girl. When dark forces threaten her beloved house, she has to take up her rightful place as the guardian of the house and subsequently, Kashmir.
8. Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders
While the American Civil War raged, President Lincoln’s beloved eleven-year-old son lay gravely ill. In a matter of days, he died and was laid to rest in Georgetown. From this true-life incident, George Saunders spins a spell-binding tale of the supernatural; the bardo being a transitional realm in which the young boy finds himself stuck.
9. Into the Water, by Paula Hawkins
The best-selling author of The Girl on The Train spins another layered story set in a small town. This one sounds equally thrilling.
10. Before We Visit The Goddess by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni
Chitra Banerjee is one of our favorite authors, for the perspectives of the protagonists in her books. That is reason enough to pick up her next.
11. Difficult Women by Roxane Gay
“A collection of stories of rare force and beauty, of hardscrabble lives, passionate loves, and quirky and vexed human connection from award-winning author and powerhouse talent Roxane Gay.” – so reads the book description. Difficult Women promises to be more than a collection of short stories; it is a rendering of the myriad expressions of the lives that create the spider web this world is.
12. When I Hit You: Or, A Portrait of the Writer as a Young Wife by Meena Kandasamy
Meena Kandasamy is known for her poetic escapades and activism related to caste, corruption, violence, and women’s rights. This semi-autobiographical novel takes her fight against abuse to a whole new level.
13. White Tears by Hari Kunzru
The US of A is in a state of flux, which makes this book about a game – a crossfire between the performer and audience, righteous and forsaken – set against the New York producing scene, so much more interesting. The fact that this book also makes it to Times list of most awaited books of 2017 just made our decision so much more firm.
14. Homesick for Another World by
Her last book – Eileen – was shortlisted for the Man Booker prize. Her next book is endorsed by Zadie Smith. Known for her darker than dark sense of humor and taut narration, Ottessa Moshfegh’s next is a book we have already pre-ordered.
15. House of Names by Colm Tóibín
Greek myth marries a spine-chilling thriller in this next book by Colm Tóibín. His last story – Brooklyn – was converted into a movie that was nominated for three Academy Awards, including one for Best Adapted Screenplay.
