In a world that detests a girl child,
Thank you God for letting me be born.
In a world where millions are illiterate,
Thank you God for making me fortunate enough to get an education.
In a world where a billion die of starvation,
Thank you God for the food on my plate.
In a world that teaches women to be dumb,
Thank you God for giving me courage to think.
In a world that worships the Goddess and beats its women,
Thank you God for leaving me un-scarred.
In a world that outcasts its older generation,
Thank you God for letting me age surrounded with love.
Oh God!
We thank you for the gift of life,
For the breath that we breathe,
For the food that we eat,
For the love of family and friends,
For these, and all blessings,
We give you thanks.
Giving thanks on Thanksgiving takes on a new meaning. This poem touches upon the fate of so many girls and women in this world. As many struggle to live, thanking the Lord for what has been given to us becomes all the more important.
